Everybody loves drinking fresh and cool water and water coolers are ideal for providing it.

Water coolers are nothing new; however they are becoming increasingly popular at home and at work. While at first they were mostly used by companies to provide employees with cool and fresh water, nowadays more and more home owners are buying them for their own kitchen as they recognize their usefulness and importance in their daily lives.

There are two types of water coolers available today: bottled water dispensers and bottleless water coolers. Each of these types has its own benefits for the user, and the main points of each are listed below.

Bottled Water Dispensers

Many offices do not allow plumbed water coolers, which means that the only choice is a bottled water dispenser. This type of cooler is portable, which makes it perfect to place it anywhere in the office where every employee has easy access to it. Because of this benefit the water dispenser is widely used at constructions sites where temporary offices are placed for workers.

Here are some of the pros and cons for this particular dispenser type:

Pros:

  • Perfect when plumbing is not available
  • Great alternative for using tap water. The water from the dispenser is much fresher and cooler. People also mentioned that it tastes better than tap water.
  • It is portable, therefore extremely convenient for the most unusual places

Cons:

  • Bottled waters need to be purchased (still cheaper than buying the small 1l bottled waters every day)
  • Emptied bottles need additional storage space
  • Full bottles are heavy thus difficult to place on the cooler

Plumbed Water Coolers

The bottleless variety has no bulky bottles to deal with so it is more compact than that bottled water dispenser. The way it works is that it is attached to the existing plumbing giving an unlimited source of water, all for free. This is why it is also called plumbed water cooler. The water is first filtered and then cooled prior to be dispensed. This way even tap water can be conveniently used, while with the prior type this it not an option.

The installation of the plumbed water cooler dispenser is more complicated, once it is setup there is no need to maintain it, except for regularly changing the filter, making this a perfect choice for home owners.

Here are the advantages and disadvantages of this type:

Pros:

  • Gives free unlimited water without having to purchase it in bottles, thus saving costs
  • There are no heavy bottles to buy, change and store
  • It is maintenance free and compact

Cons:

  • The initial installation is more complicated requiring the help of a specialist
  • It is not portable, so it can not be moved to another location once it is installed
  • Rental areas or places with no direct water supplies cannot take advantage of this particular dispenser type

Both water coolers are great and have their own uses and advantages. The bottled water coolers are mostly used in rentals, apartments and offices, while the plumbed water coolers are used by home owners in houses and areas with installed plumbing.

There are many online suppliers for each type and some actually offer both. Aquaverve is one of them. Although the dispensers are not the cheapest, they are a viable and more cost effective alternative to tap water or insulated water bottles in the long run.
