Memory foam is a perfect material for giving individuals the rest they need during the night.

The material, originally developed by NASA as part of their space program, is visco-elastic pollyurethane resilient foam. The resilient feature allows for complete adaptation to the size of the head. Very soft and light, it is also nice and firm under the head, not to mention the fact that it is a very durable material, as it is very dense. No wonder, since the material was originally created to give extra comfort to the astronauts during their take-off and re-entry which would impact their bodies to extreme.

Benefits of Using a Memory Foam Pillow for Sleep

Memory foam pillows, as well as memory foam mattress toppers, give the sleeper the benefit of alleviating back and neck problems, easing up snoring, and bringing the person to a very comfortable position, thus eliminating twisting and turning in the bed. Regardless of whether one sleeps on the side or on the back, this pillow offers the perfect neck-spine alignment for a total comfort.

Most of the pillows, such as synthetic, made of feather or conventional foam, get very hot after a while, and people find themselves not once turning the pillow on the other side to get back that cooling off effect. Not so with the pillow made of memory foam. As soon as the head is lifted, the pillow changes back to its original form, being temperature-sensitive in the process. The foam in the pillow relieves the pressure points and also alleviates joint paints, so it is perfect for people with arthritis problems.

Many people have already upgraded their entire bedding system to memory foam, including not only the pillow but also their mattress topper and mattress. However, as the whole experience might be a bit expensive, it is worth at least changing the pillow to memory foam. The improvement in the quality of sleep is so beneficial, that it's not worth delaying it any longer. One can always upgrade the mattress or topper later one as well, as the finances permit.

For even greater benefits, the pillow top mattress pads give additional comfort to the head during sleeping, so these should be also included in the purchase plan when the decision for upgrading the bed system is finally taken.

Short Pillow Buying Guide

Memory foam pillows, just as latex mattress toppers, are available for purchase in different sizes, from the very small to extra large, allowing individuals to get the pillow they most need for their bed. It is important to purchase a pillow that perfectly fits the neck and back area, without getting a bumpy feel from it. Also a better quality product is desired, as it will not only last longer, but will give the extra comfort that tired body so much needs. Different sleeping positions will also need different types of pillows. For example, when the sleeping position is on the back, a less deep pillow is recommended. Sleeping on the stomach warrants a very thin pillow.

Knowing these facts about this pillow types means there should not be any reason not to have it for sleep. The health benefits are great for everyone, including people who are suffering from insomnia, people who can't sleep during the night due to stress, or various health conditions, and even people who are simply light sleepers. Many health practitioners endorse these pillows and they should not be overlooked.
